1. 用作動詞，表示“把……看作……”，與介詞 as 連用；as 之后可接名詞、代詞、形容詞、分詞、介詞短語等。如：
I regard him as a friend. 我把他當朋友。
He regarded the situation as (being) serious. 他認為形勢嚴重。
We can’t regard the matter as settled. 我們不能認為這事已經解決。
He regarded her as (being) without principles. 他認為她沒有原則。
注：不要把以上各句中的 as 均不能省略，也不能改為 to be或that 從句。如：
誤：I regard him (to be) a friend. (www.52ysedu.com)
誤：I regard him that he is a friend.
2. 表示“注視”、“看待”，通常與介詞 with 連用。如：
Now they regard her with a new respect. 現在他們對她有了新的崇敬心情。
3. 用作名詞，表示“關心”、“關懷”等，是不可數名詞；表示“尊重”、“贊賞”，也是不可數名詞，但有時可與不定冠詞連用。如：
He shows little regard for others. 他很少關心別人。
I have (a) great regard for him. 我很尊重他。
4. 表示“問候”，要用復數形式。如：
Please give him my (best) regards. 請代我向他問好。
My father sends his regards to you. 我父親向你問好。
5. 用于 as regards 或 with [in] regard to, 意為“關于”、“至于”。如：
As regards money, I have enough. 至于錢，我有的是。
I have something to say with [in] regard to his conduct. 對于他的行為，我有一點意見。
◆regret v.
1. 表示“遺憾”、“抱歉”，是及物動詞，不要按漢語意思在其后連用介詞 about 或 for。如：
假若你現在就走，你會后悔的。
誤：If you go now, you will regret about [for] it.
正：If you go now, you will regret it.
2. 表示對將要發生的事感到“遺憾”或“抱歉”，其后要接不定式。如：
I regret to tell you that he can’t come. 很抱歉他不能來。
We regret to say that we can’t accept your kind offer. 很抱歉我們不能接受你的友好提供。
注：其后所接不定式通常是 to say, to tell, to inform 等，此時主語一般是第一人稱，且 regret 通常用現在時。
3. 表示對已經發生的事感到“后悔”或“遺憾”，其后通常接動名詞的一般式或完成式(有時也接不定式的完成式)。如：
He regretted doing [having done] it. 他后悔做了此事。
I regret not having [to have] worked harder. 我后悔當初沒有更努力些。
注：若句中含有具體的過去時間狀語，則以用動名詞的一般式表示已發生的動作。如：
I regret going there yesterday. 我后悔昨天去了那兒。
4. 其后可接 that 從句，比較以下同義句型。如：
我不能來，覺得很遺憾。
正：I regret being unable to come.
正：I regret that I can’t come.
他后悔說了那樣的話。
正：He regretted having said that.
正：He regretted that he had said that.
◆remain v.
1. 表示“剩下”、“留下”、“尚需”等，均為不及物動詞，因此不能跟有賓語，也沒有被動語態，并且一般不用于進行時態。如：
地震之后，沒剩幾座房子。
誤：Few houses were remained after the earthquake.
誤：Few houses were remaining after the earthquake.
正：Few houses remained after the earthquake.
