◆nervous adj.
表示對某事感到緊張或害怕等，通常用與介詞 about, of 連用。如：
Don’t be nervous (about it). The doctor will help you. 醫生會幫助你的。
We’re nervous about [of] our first trip abroad. 我們對初次出國旅行感到很緊張。
He’s nervous about [of] staying alone at night. 他害怕晚上一個人呆著。
◆news n.
1. 表示“消息”、“報道”，是不可數名詞。如：
現在報道幾條有趣的新聞。
誤：Here are some interesting news.
正：Here is some interesting news.
正：Here are some interesting pieces [items] of news.
2. 表示“有關……的消息或報道等”，通常后接介詞 of, about。如：
Have you heard the news about [of] him (the accident)? 你聽說過他(這個事故)的消息嗎?
What’s the latest news about the election? 選舉的最新消 息是什么?
◆newspaper n.
1. 表示“報紙”，可視為 news(消息) 和 paper(紙)組合而成，但兩者均為不可數名詞，而 newspaper作為供人閱讀或傳遞信息的一種東西—報紙，它是可數的。如：
我進來時他在讀報紙。
誤：When I entered he was reading a piece of newspaper.
正：When I entered he was reading a newspaper.
比較：a piece of news (paper) 一條新聞(一張紙)
但是值得注意的是：若不是將 newspaper當作是供閱讀或傳遞信息的一種東西，而是把它僅僅當成一種“紙”來看待，則也可用作不可數名詞。如：
Wrap it in (a sheet of) newspaper. 用(張)報紙把它包起來。
2. 其前用介詞 in 和 on, 含義有差別：
Look, there is a photo in the newspaper. 瞧，報上登有一張照片。
Look, there is a photo on the newspaper. 瞧，報上放有一張照片。
◆next adj.，adv. & n.
1. 表示“下一個(次)”等，可用作形容詞、副詞、名詞等。如：
Next Sunday is May 10. 下一個星期天是
When you come next, bring it. 你下次來時，把它帶來。
Next, please. 下一位。(主要用于招呼依次等候者)
2. 與 week, month, year, term, Monday 等表示時間的名詞連用時，由于本身已具有副詞性質，在句中用作狀語時，其前無需用介詞。如：
I will go abroad next year. 我明年要出國。
We’ll study physics next term. 下期我們將學物理。
注：若將 next 置于時間名詞之后，則可用介詞。如：
I will return on Monday next (=next Monday). 我下周星期一回來。
3. 用于 (the) next time, 可用作連詞，引導時間狀語從句，意為“下一次”。其中的冠詞可以省略。如：
I’ll tell him about it (the) next time I see him. 我下一次見到他時，我就把這個情況告訴他。
Next time I take a cab, I’ll be more careful. 下次坐出租車我會更小心了。
注：有時用作副詞，表示“下一次”，在句中作狀語，與單獨用的 next 大致同義。比較：
你下次來時，務必要把你的女朋友帶來。
正：Next time you come, be sure to bring your girlfriend.
正：When you come next, be sure to bring your girlfriend.
正：When you come next time, be sure to bring your girl friend.
3. 用于 next to, 其基本義為“緊挨著”、“在……旁邊”、 “僅次于”等。如：
The hotel is next to the church. 旅館就在教堂隔壁。
It is the largest city next to
Next to your mother, who do you love most? 除你母親外，你最愛誰?
有時用于引申義，表示“幾乎”、“近于”。如：
A：How much did these things cost? 這些東西花了多少錢?
B：Next to nothing. 幾乎沒花錢。
It’s next to impossible to cure his illness. 要治好他的病幾乎是不可能的。
