304. whisper 

(1) to speak very quietly to sb so that other people cannot hear what you are saying.

[v that] He whispered to me that he was afraid.

(2) [often passive] to say or suggest sth about sb/sth in a private or secret way.

[vn that] It was whispered that he would soon die and he did.

[v that] Staff were whispering that the company was about to go out of business.

305. wire  (especially AmE) to send sb a message by telegram.

[v that] I have wired that you should receive grapes now, and a fruit basket each weekend…

306. wish  (not usually used in the present progressive tense) to want sth to happen or to be true even though it is unlikely or impossible.

[v (that) ] I wish I were taller.

(BrE also) I wish I was taller.

I wish I hadn’t eaten so much. 

I wish you wouldn’t leave your clothes all over the floor.

307. wonder   to be very surprised by sth.

[v (that) ] I wonder (that) he didn’t hurt himself jumping over that wall.  I don’t wonder you’re tired. You’ve had a busy day.

308. work out —to find the answer to sth.

[v that] It was years before I worked out that he wasn’t talking about the cream buns.

309. worry 

(1) to keep thinking about unpleasant things that might happen or about problems that you have.

[v (that) ] I worry that I won’t get into college.

(2) to make sb/yourself anxious about sb/sth.

[vn that] It worries me that he hasn’t come home yet.

310.write

(1) to put information, a message of good wishes, etc. in a letter and send it to sb.

[v that] She wrote that they were all fine. 

[vn that] (AmE) He wrote me that he would be arriving Monday. 

(2) to state the information or the words mentioned.

[v that] In his latest book he writes that the theory has since been disproved.  

311. yell   to shout loudly, for example because you are angry, excited, frightened or in pain.

[v that] To encourage her, Trent yelled that the road was in sight.

5.3.1.2 “S+V+ it+賓語補語+that從句中,that不可省略。

1. “S+V+ it+名詞+that從句中,that不可省略。

適用于此句型的動詞有:believecall, consider, deem, feel, find, think

例如:

(1) The pilot called it a miracle that no one was killed.

(2) He considered it a good thing that the parliaments would be involved.

(3) We all deemed it a privilege that he was conferred the title of honorary chairman.

(4) Ann felt it an justice that she had been automatically blamed.

(5) They find it a mystery that he has never mentioned his parents. 

(6) Tom thought it a tragedy that she had settled for marrying Joe Scully.

2.“S+V+ it+形容詞+that從句中,that不可省略。

適用于此句型的動詞有:believeconsider, deem, feel, find, imagine, make, think

例如:

(1) More than that, he believed it possible that he, as much as Luke Eliot, would value Shildon’s research into the dead man’s background.

(2) We consider it necessary that the machine should be oiled regularly. 

(3) I also deemed it vital that we call on the wisdom and expertise of those who have been and continue to be leaders within our profession.

(4) Under the circumstances I feel it right that you should know.

(5) I found it strange that she had not come yet. 

(6) Mr. Black made it clear that the students should prepare every lesson. 

(7) I think it important that we should keep calm. 

注:I heard it said that she had gone abroad. 

可以用于本句型形容詞有:absurd, appalling, contemptible, depressing, disappointing, discouraging, disgraceful, distasteful, distressing, disturbing, dreadful, excessive, frustrating, galling, gross, hard, horrific, immoral, inadvisable, inequitable, intolerable, irritating, ludicrous, maddening, offensive, ominous, outrageous, perverse, pitiable, regrettable, ridiculous, sad, scandalous, shocking, sickening, silly, sinister, terrible, tiresome, tragic, unacceptable, undesirable, unfair, unforgivable, unfortunate, unjust, unreasonable, unsatisfactory, wrong等。

3. “see (to it) that…”中,that不可省略。例如:

see (to it) that… “……安排、確認例如:We’ll see (to it) that you get home early. 

4. “S+V+介詞+it +that…”中,that不可省略。例如:

answer for it that… 保證

depend on[upon] it that… 依賴于

rely on/upon it that…依賴于

例如:She depends on it that I will do it.
