219. radio  to send a message to sb by radio.

220. read  (not used in the progressive tenses) to discover or find out about sb/sth by reading.

[v that] I read that he had resigned. 

221. reaffirm   to state sth again in order to emphasize that it is still true.

[v that]He reaffirmed that Iran’s "main condition" was that direct talks under UN mediation should be based on the 1975 Algiers accord and UN Security Council Resolution 598 of August 1987.

222. realize (BrE also realise) (not used in the progressive tenses) to understand or become aware of a particular fact or situation.

[v (that) ] I didn’t realize (that) you were so unhappy.

The moment I saw her, I realized something was wrong. 

[vn that] There was a cheer when it was realized that everyone was safely back.

223. reason  to form a judgement about a situation by considering the facts and using your power to think in a logical way.

[v that] She reasoned that she must have left her bag on the train. 

224. reassure   to say or do sth that makes sb less frightened or worried.

[vn that] The doctor reassured him that there was nothing seriously wrong.

225. recall  (formal) (not used in the progressive tenses) to remember sth.

226. recognize  (not used in the progressive tenses) to admit or to be aware that sth exists or is true.

[vn that] It was recognized that this solution could only be temporary.

227. reckon 

(1) (informal, especially BrE) to think sth or have an opinion about sth.

[v (that) ] I reckon (that) I’m going to get that job. 

(2) to calculate an amount, a number, etc.

[v (that) ] They reckon (that) their profits are down by at least 20%. 

228. recollect  (not used in the progressive tenses) (rather formal) to remember sth, especially by making an effort to remember

[v that]  I recollect that we were all gathered in the kitchen.

229. recommend  to advise a particular course of action; to advise sb to do sth.

[v (that) ] I recommend (that) he see a lawyer.

(BrE also) I recommend (that) he should see a lawyer. 

[vn (that) ] It is strongly recommended that the machines should be checked every year. 

230. recount   (formal) to tell sb about sth, especially sth that you have experienced.

236. rejoin    (formal) to say sth as an answer, especially sth quick, critical or amusing.

237. remain    to still need to be done, said, or dealt with.

(3) to keep an important fact in your mind.

[vn (that) ] It should be remembered that the majority of accidents happen in the home.
