1. 用作名詞，泛指一般意義的“幫助”，是不可數(shù)名詞；表示具體的有幫助的人或事物，是可數(shù)名詞。如：
He gave me a lot of help. 他給了我許多幫助。
It wasn’t (of) much help. 這并無多大幫助。
You are a great help to me. 你對我?guī)椭艽蟆?/SPAN>
Her advice is a great help. 她的建議大有益處．
表示“在……的幫助下”，通常用介詞 with(不用 under)。如：
I can read the French book with the help of a dictionary. 我可以借助字典閱讀這本法語書。
2. 用作動(dòng)詞，表示“幫助”，其后可接不定式或不定式的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)作賓語，其中的不定式可以帶 to 也可以不帶 to。
He helped (to) wash the car. 他幫忙洗車。
I helped him (to) find his things. 我?guī)退覗|西。
注：在被動(dòng)語態(tài)中，不定式要帶 to。如：
The boy was helped by a woman to collect his scatteredcoins. 那男孩由一個(gè)女人幫他撿拾散一地的錢幣。
另外，當(dāng) help 之后接一個(gè)較長的名詞詞組作賓語，或當(dāng)其中的不定式所表示的動(dòng)作主語不直接參加時(shí)，不定式一般都要帶 to。如：
Help the little boys at the back of the hall to carry thechairs out. 請幫大廳后面那些小男孩把椅子搬出去。
The book helps (you) to speak English. 這本書有助于(你)說英語。
注意，help 后不能接動(dòng)名詞或動(dòng)名詞的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)。如：
誤：He helped washing the car.
誤：I helped him [his] finding his things.
但是若在一定的句型中用了介詞，則可用動(dòng)名詞。如：
The book will help you in improving [= to improve] yourEnglish. 這本書會有助于提高你的英語水平。
3. 用于 help oneself (sb) (to sth)，表示請人吃東西或自己拿取某物。如：
Help yourself to the fruit. 吃點(diǎn)水果吧。
A：Can I have a drink? 我可以喝一杯嗎?
B：Help yourself. 自己倒吧。
You just help yourself as you walk. (在自動(dòng)售貨商店)你就邊走邊挑你所要的東西好了。
注：有時(shí)表示不經(jīng)允許擅自拿取或偷。如：
They broke into the shop and helped themselves to thestock. 他們闖入商店，隨心所欲地偷取商店的貨品。
4. 用于 can’t help (doing, to do, but)，根據(jù)含義的不同，其后所接詞語也不同：
(1) 表示禁不住或情不自禁地做某事，其后接動(dòng)名詞。如：
I couldn’t help laughing at his words. 聽了他的話我禁不住笑了。
We can’t help thinking he’s still alive. 我們總是認(rèn)為他還活著。
注：有時(shí)后接反身代詞或代詞 it。如：
She burst out laughing; she couldn’t help it [herself]. 她突然大笑起來，無法克制自己。
(2) 表示不能幫助做某事，其后接不定式。如：
I’m too busy, and I really can’t help to do it. 我很忙，我真的不能幫忙做此事。
The medicine can’t help to get rid of your cold. 這藥不能幫你消除感冒。
(3) can’t help but 是固定結(jié)構(gòu)，意為“不得不”、“不會不”、“必須”等，其后接動(dòng)詞原形。如：
We can’t help but admire his courage. 我們不得不贊賞他的勇氣。
