1. 三者均可表示“隨身帶著”，有時可互換。如：
I have no money about [on, with] me. 我身邊沒帶錢。
2. 嚴格說來，這三個詞是有區別的：
(1) about 一般指隨身帶的小物品。如：
Have you a ballpoint pen about you? 你身上帶圓珠筆了嗎？
2) with 多指帶較大的東西(也可指較小的東西)。如：
He took an umbrella with him. 他隨身帶了把傘。
3) on 表示帶在身上(如在口袋里)。如：
Have you any money on you? 你身上帶著錢嗎?
注：此例若用 with 或 about，則不一定放在身上，可能放在皮包里等。
3. 用于引申義，表示某人或某物的特性或特征，通常用 about。如：
There is something noble about him. 他有一種高貴的氣質。
He always has his wits about him. 他一向不失機智。
We can see something beautiful about the old cottage. 從這座古老的小屋本身我們可以看到一些美的東西。
注：以上用法中的 about 有時可與介詞 in 換用，前者側重指外在表現，后者側重指內在素質。
about, round & around
1. 表示“在……周圍”，三者�？苫Q。如：
They sat about [round, around] the fire. 他們圍火而坐。
注：在現代英語中，about 用于這種情況已不多見。
2. 表示“到處”，三者�？苫Q。如：
He travelled about [round, around] the world. 他周游了全世界。
3. 用在數字之前表示“大約”，一般用 about 或 around。如：
It costs about [around] ten dollars. 它大約要花 10 美元。
There are about [around] 30 bookstores in the city. 這座城里大約有 30 家書店。
注：在英國英語中，在表示時間的詞組里也可用 round。如：
He arrived about [round, around] 5 o’clock. 他是大約5點鐘到的。
I’ll be back about [round, around] lunch time. 我午飯前后回來。
4. 表示把某物分給一群人中的每一個時，可用 round 或 around，而不用 about。如：
Will you hand round [around] the papers? 請你把考卷分發一下，好嗎?
但是通常不說：Will you hand about the papers?
above & over
1. 兩者都可表示“高于”，over 主要表示垂直在上的正上方，而 above 則不一定表示正上方(即可以是正上方也可以不是正上方)。如：
They built a new room above [over] the garage. 他們在車房上加蓋了一個新房間。
Can you see the helicopter above [over] the building? 你能看到那架正在建筑物上方飛的直升飛機嗎?
He stayed at the hotel above the lake. 他住在可以俯瞰湖泊的旅館里。
換句話說，表示正上方，兩者均可用；不表示正上方，則通常要用 above。
2. 兩者均可表示數目、數量等的“多于”、“超過”、“……以上”。如：
Over [Above] 200 people were there. 有 200 多人在那兒。
There’s nothing in the shop above [over] 50 cents. 這個店里沒有一樣東西價錢超過五角。
注：但在現代英語中，above 的這種用法已不多見，通常用 over 代之。在現代英語中，above 表示“多于”時，主要用于表示溫度、高度以及有縱向標準可比的情況。如：
It is 2 000 ft above sea level. 它海拔 2 000 英尺。
The temperature is two degrees above zero. 溫度是零上2度。
3. 若含有動態或覆蓋的意味，通常用 over，而不用 above。如：
He flew over to
Come over and see us later. 以后來看我們。
Cover her over with a sheet. 用床單把她蓋起來。
