2. THE ‘OBVIOUS’ GROUP  

These adjectives indicate that something is obviously true. 例如:

(1) apparent明顯的;顯而易見的

It has been apparent that in other areas standards have held up well... (apparent =easy to see or understand)

(2) clear明顯的;顯然的;明白無誤的

It’s clear that the drug does benefit some patients. 這種藥顯然對有些病人有效。(clear=obvious and leaving no doubt at all)

(3) evident顯然的;明顯的

It is also evident that artistic and cultural heritage belongs to humankind.

(4) manifest明顯的;顯而易見的

It is manifest that some exchanges quickly sour: the happy investment in a savings-and-loan bond on Monday which on Tuesday becomes worthless.

(5) obvious明顯的;顯然的;無疑的

It is obvious that the proportion represented by repeated drug users increased from 7.2% in 1995 to 25.3% in 2003.

(6) plain明顯的;明白的;清楚的

It was plain to him that I was having a nervous breakdown...  (plain =easy to see or understand)

(7) transparent易懂的;明晰的;一目了然的

It must have been transparent that they were exchanging net messages.

3. THE ‘MARVELLOUS’ GROUP 

These adjectives indicate that the event or situation indicated by the that-clause is a good or desirable one. 例如:

(1) acceptable認同的,認可的

I hope it’s acceptable that we wandered in without calling ahead.

(2) admirable令人欽佩的;值得贊賞的

It is admirable that you asked for the others before you asked for yourself,…

(3) advisable可取的;明智的;適當的

It is advisable that we (should) stay at home instead of going to the movie.

(4) appropriate適當的;合適的;恰當的

It is appropriate that WTO focuses on trade and that other institutions focus on the environment.

(5) apt合適的,恰當的,貼切的

Thus, it is entirely apt that he should choose his nightly recreation in the provinces, …

(6) beneficial有益的;有利的;有幫助的

I think it was beneficial that I didn’t know much about Idi Amin, …

(7) brilliant非常好的;很棒的;出色的

Keith Parker, manager of the centre where Joanna works, said: "It is absolutely brilliant that she has come back safely."

(8) commendable值得稱贊(或表揚)

It is commendable that the AIDS statistics have continued to go down in the Bay Area.

(9) convenient方便的;便利的

(10) cool 極具魅力的,時髦的,酷的

(11) cute 逗人喜愛的

(12) desirable值得想望(或擁有) 的;合意的;可取的;受歡迎的

(13) encouraging令人鼓舞的;振奮人心的;給人希望的

(14) equitable公平的;公正的;合理的

Is it equitable that one jurisdiction through the vagaries of geography and meteorology should suffer both from the adjacent state’s pollution and from the nation’s laws?

(15) exciting令人興奮的;令人激動的;刺激的

In a lot of ways, it’s exciting that this issue of class is coming up in our schools, because maybe it will re-energize the conversation.
