1. 基本義為“季節(jié)”，是可數(shù)名詞。如：

There are four seasons in a year. 一年有四個季節(jié)。

Spring and autumn are my favorite seasons. 春季和秋季是我最喜歡的季節(jié)。

注：有時用于轉義，表示“季節(jié)”、“時節(jié)”、“時期”、“旺期”等。如：

It is just the season for shooting now. 現(xiàn)在正是狩獵的好時節(jié)。

但是要注意以下特殊情況：

(1) 特指某一季節(jié)時，通常要用定冠詞。如：

He left in the autumn of 1980. 他是1980年秋離開的。

(2) 季節(jié)名詞前有形容詞修飾，泛指“某一個或某一種”這樣的概念時，可用不定冠詞。如：

It was a very cold winter. 那是一個非常寒冷的冬天。

(3) 季節(jié)名詞前有 during, through, all through, throughout 等詞時，一般要用定冠詞。如：

We worked on the farm during the autumn. 秋季我們在農場工作。

(4) 季節(jié)名詞與 all 連用時，用不用 the 均可，不過在否定句中一般不用the。如：

We haven’t seen him all autumn. 我們整個秋天都沒看到他。

(5) 當不強調時間而強調季節(jié)的內涵時，通常要用 the。比較:

冬天要來了。

正：Winter is coming. (單純指冬天的時間)

正：The winter is coming. (暗示寒冷)

春天他到河里游泳。

正：In spring he swam in the rivers. (單純指春天的時間)

正：In the spring he swam in the rivers. (暗示春回大地，冰融雪化，天氣轉暖等內涵)

1. 用作名詞，表示“座位”，是可數(shù)名詞。如：

He changed seats with me. 他同我換了座位。

Excuse me, is this seat taken? 請問這座位有人坐嗎?

2. 用作動詞，表示“使坐下”、“能坐(或容納下)”，是及物動詞。如：

Seat the people here, please. 讓人們在這里就座吧。

He seated himeslf at the desk. 他在桌子旁坐了下來。

The room can seat 200 people. 這房間能坐200人。

注：在很多情況下，seated 相當于 sitting。如：

I found him seated [sitting] in the corner. 我發(fā)現(xiàn)他坐在角落里。

3. 口語中說“請坐”，英語可有以下表達：
