He has my car on loan. 他借了我的汽車(chē)。
I have the book on loan from the library. 我從圖書(shū)館借了這本書(shū)。
■on oath 發(fā)誓
Is she prepared to give evidence on oath? 他準(zhǔn)備發(fā)誓作證嗎？
I testify on oath that I have not noticed the accident. 我發(fā)誓聲明我沒(méi)有注意到這場(chǎng)事故。
■on occasion 偶爾，有時(shí)
I meet him on occasion at the club or in the theatre. 我有時(shí)在俱樂(lè)部或在戲院里遇到他。
He reads detective stories on occasion. 他偶爾閱讀偵探小說(shuō)。
■on offer 供出售的（尤指削價(jià)出售的）
There are only inferior on offer. 只有低檔貨出售。
Baked beans are on offer this week at the local supermarket. 當(dāng)?shù)爻?jí)市場(chǎng)本周烘豆罐頭大減價(jià)。
■on order 定購(gòu)中，定制中
The shoes are on order and will be shipped next week. 鞋子已經(jīng)訂購(gòu)但尚未交付，下個(gè)星期就可以裝運(yùn)了。
The textbook you require is temporarily out of stock, but it’s on order. 您要買(mǎi)的教科書(shū)暫時(shí)沒(méi)有貨，但是已經(jīng)訂購(gòu)了。
■on paper 在紙上；以書(shū)面形式；在理論上
The children drew the outline of flowers on paper, then colored them. 孩子們把花的輪廓畫(huà)在紙上，然后涂上顏色。
Why don’t you set your ideas down on paper? 你怎么不把你的想法以書(shū)面形式寫(xiě)出來(lái)呢?
It’s a fine scheme on paper, but will it work in practice? 那計(jì)劃從理論上看不錯(cuò)，不過(guò)實(shí)踐上是否可行?
■on purpose 故意地，特意地
“You’ve torn a page out of my book!” “I’m sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose.” “我的書(shū)給你撕掉了一頁(yè)啦！”“很對(duì)不起，我不是故意的。”
I came a bit early on purpose, to see if I could help you. 我特地早一點(diǎn)來(lái)，看看能不能幫你的忙。
■on request 一經(jīng)要求
Catalogues are available on request. 備有目錄供索取。
The library will lend you this book on request. 只要你提出要求，圖書(shū)館就借給你這本書(shū)
【注】其中的on 也可換成 upon。如：
A pamphlet will be sent on [upon] request. 小冊(cè)子函索即寄。
■on record 正式記錄的；公開(kāi)發(fā)表的
Last summer was the wettest on record for 50 years. 剛過(guò)去的這個(gè)夏季是50年來(lái)記錄中雨水最多的。
She’s on record as opposing the new law. 她反對(duì)這項(xiàng)新法律，這是有案可查的。
■on sale 出售，有售
Every article on view will be on sale. 每件展品都將出售。
This week’s edition is on sale now at your local newsagents. 本期周刊已公開(kāi)發(fā)售，讀者可向各報(bào)販購(gòu)買(mǎi)。
