◆discussion n.

1. 表示“討論”，若指一次討論活動或一次討論會等具體意義，是可數的；若側重指討論的動作或狀態等，通常為不可數的。比較：

After several lengthy discussions they decided to leave. 經過多次長時間的討論，他們決定離開。

After much discussion they decided to sell it. 經過充分的討論之后，他們決定把它賣了。

2. 表示進行或開展討論，通常與動詞 have, hold, lead, cause等連用；表示討論的內容，通常與介詞 on, about, over 等連用。如：

We had [held] a discussion with her about [over] it. 對此我們同她進行了討論。

3. 用于 under discussion(正在討論中)，其中不用限定詞。如：

The plan is under discussion. ＝The plan is beingdiscussed. 該計劃正在討論當中。

◆disease n.

1. 表示“疾病”，通常指具體的“疾病”(可數)。如：

Most diseases could be wiped out. 多數疾病是可以消滅的。

I caught the disease from you. 這病我是從你那傳染來的。

注：有時指具體疾病的總稱(不可數)，即通稱的“疾病”。如：

Rats spread disease. 老鼠傳染疾病。

Cleanliness helps prevent disease. 清潔有助于預防疾病。

2. 用于醫學上表示各種病稱。如：lung disease(肺病)，heart disease(心臟病)，a nervous disease(神經病)，a sex disease(性病)，skin disease(皮膚病)，contagious diseases(傳染病)等

注：有個別搭配也用 illness。如：

mental illness [sickness] 精神病

3. 有關“疾病”的表達習慣：

你生了什么病?

正：What’s your trouble?

誤：What’s your disease?

假期中他害了一場大病。

正：While on holiday he caught a serious disease.

誤：While on holiday he caught a big (heavy) disease.

◆dislike n. & v.

1. 用作名詞，表示“不喜歡”、“討厭”，注意區別兩個短語的搭配：

(1) have [show] a dislike for [of] 不喜歡，討厭。如：

I have a dislike for [of] cats. 我不喜歡貓。

(2) take a dislike to 不喜歡，討厭。如：

He takes a dislike to her. 他不喜歡她。

2. 用作名詞的 dislike 通常不接不定式，而接 to doing sth。如：

我非常討厭打牌賭錢。

誤：I have a strong dislike to play cards for money.

正：I have a strong dislike to playing cards for money.

3. 用作動詞，其后通常接名詞或動名詞作賓語，在現代英語中通常不接不定式(這與其反義詞 like 不同)。如：

We dislike cold weather. 我們不喜歡寒冷的天氣。

He dislikes being spoken like that. 他討厭那樣跟他講話。

通常不說：He dislikes to be spoken like that.

4. 動詞 dislike 在現代英語中不僅不接不定式作賓語，而且通常也不接不定式的復合結構。如：

我討厭他開我的車。

誤：I dislike him to drive my car.

正：I dislike him [his] driving my car.

5. dislike 通常只用作及物動詞，所以下面一句中其后的 it 不能省略(注：其后的 when 從句為狀語從句而非賓語從句)：

I dislike it when you whistle. 我討厭你吹口哨。
