very 用法面面觀

1. 用作形容詞，意為“正是”“恰是”，通常要與 the, this, that, my, your 等連用。如：

The very idea [though]. 真是個(gè)餿主意。

You are the very man I want to see. 你正是我想要見的人。

At that very moment the phone rang. 就在那時(shí)電話鈴響了。

2. 用作副詞，表示“很”“非常”，注意以用法：

(1) 主要用來修飾形容詞或副詞的原級(jí)，但不能修飾比較級(jí)。如：

我的頭疼好多了，那些藥片確實(shí)有效。

誤：My headache’s very better. Those tablets really are effective.

正：My headache’s much better. Those tablets really are effective.

注意，very 不能修飾比較級(jí)，但有時(shí)可用來修飾最高級(jí)（放在定冠詞之后）。如：

I want to give my children the very best education I can afford. 我想給我的孩子們提供我所能提供的最好的教育。

但是，這樣用的very通常不能修飾由 most 構(gòu)成的最高級(jí)。

(2) 用于修飾 own, first, last, next, same 等詞，加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣。如：

She was wearing the very same shoes as me. 他與我穿的鞋子完全一樣。

You can keep this for your very own. 你可以把這個(gè)留作你自己用。

I found the sentence on the very next page. 我就在下一頁(yè)找到了這個(gè)句子。

(3) 有些形容詞（如alone, asleep, awake, worth, known等）在需要加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣時(shí)習(xí)慣上不用very修飾，而應(yīng)改用其他副詞。如：

I was wide awake then. 我當(dāng)時(shí)完全是醒的。

He was fast asleep with his mouth wide open. 他睡得很熟，嘴巴大大地張開著。

He’s well known in the art world. 他在藝術(shù)界很有名氣。

The town is well worth a visit. 這個(gè)城鎮(zhèn)很值得一看。

(4) 有時(shí)可修飾某些介詞短語(yǔ)（主要是用作表語(yǔ)的介詞短語(yǔ)）。如：

She is very like her mother. 她很像她母親。

This machine is very out of date. 這臺(tái)機(jī)器已經(jīng)很過時(shí)了。

The play is very near the end. 戲很快就要結(jié)束了。

(5) 有人認(rèn)為very不能受how, so修飾，其實(shí)這是一種誤解。如：

How very cheeky! 臉皮真厚！

How very much they suffered! 他們受的苦真是太多了!

I was so very happy. 我真的太高興了。

(4) 不要根據(jù)漢語(yǔ)意思用 very 去修飾動(dòng)詞。如：

我們很喜歡這個(gè)小男孩。

正：We like the boy very much.

誤：We very like the boy.

我很想留在這兒。

正：I want to stay here very much.

誤：I very want to stay here.

我會(huì)非常想念你們的。

正：I shall miss you very much.

誤：I shall very miss you.

3. very, much, very much的用法區(qū)別

(1) 原則上說，very主要修飾形容詞或副詞，much和very much主要用于修飾動(dòng)詞。但是，修飾副詞too，要用much。如：

It is much too expensive. 這太貴了。

(2) much修飾動(dòng)詞時(shí)，通常只用于否定句或疑問句，而不用于肯定陳述句，除非其前有very, too, so等之類的修飾語(yǔ)，如：

She doesn’t like him much. 她不太喜歡他。

Does she much like him?=Does she like him much? 她很喜歡他嗎？

但習(xí)慣上不說：He likes the film much. (www.52ysedu.com)

不過可以說：He likes the film very (so, too) much. 他很（太）喜歡這部電影。

(3) 單個(gè)的much（即沒有修飾語(yǔ)）有時(shí)也可能在肯定句修飾動(dòng)詞，但這只限于regret, admire, prefer, appreciate等少數(shù)動(dòng)詞，且此時(shí)的much應(yīng)置于句中，而不是句末。如：

We much appreciate your invitation. 我們非常感激你的邀請(qǐng)。

(4) very much是much的強(qiáng)調(diào)說法，從理論上說，可用much的地方就可用very much。
