表示推測(cè)的情態(tài)動(dòng)詞

■肯定的推測(cè)

must, should, may(might) 或could（一般不用can），其中，must的語(yǔ)氣最強(qiáng)，譯為“一定，準(zhǔn)是，想必是”；may(might) , could的語(yǔ)氣最弱，譯為“也許”、“可能”。如：

The computer doesn’t work. There must be something wrong with it. 這臺(tái)計(jì)算機(jī)開(kāi)不了機(jī)。一定是有什么毛病了。

It should be fine tomorrow. 明天很可能天晴。

If you look at the moon, you may/might have many questions to ask. 如果你看看月亮，或許會(huì)有許多問(wèn)題要問(wèn)。

This project could create 5,000 new jobs. 這項(xiàng)新工程可能給5千人帶來(lái)新工作。

■否定的推測(cè)

表示可能但不是肯定無(wú)疑時(shí)，常用should not(恐怕不會(huì)) ，或用may not, might not或could not，譯為“可能不，也許不”；否定語(yǔ)氣較強(qiáng)時(shí)，則用can’t或couldn’t，譯為“不可能”。如：

Don’t worry, your father may not have been hurt seriously. 別急，你父親也許傷得不厲害。

He might not be in England. 他或許不在英國(guó)。

There shouldn’t be any difficulty about getting you a visa. 給你弄個(gè)簽證恐怕不會(huì)有什么困難。

After what had happened he could not continue to work there. 鑒于所發(fā)生的事情，他不可能繼續(xù)在那里工作下去了。

He can’t be more than thirty. 他不可能在三十以上。

■疑問(wèn)句中的推測(cè)

一般用can或could。如：

What can he mean? 他可能是什么意思呢?

What could have become of him now? 現(xiàn)在他可能怎么樣了呢?

■后接的動(dòng)詞形式

對(duì)現(xiàn)在或?qū)��?lái)的推測(cè)一般接動(dòng)詞原形；若表示說(shuō)話(huà)是正在發(fā)生的情況，用情態(tài)動(dòng)詞+be+現(xiàn)在分詞；若要表示對(duì)過(guò)去的情況進(jìn)行推測(cè)時(shí)，用“情態(tài)動(dòng)詞+ have + 過(guò)去分詞”。如：

You must know Diana surely. 你準(zhǔn)會(huì)認(rèn)識(shí)戴安娜。

You must be joking. 你準(zhǔn)是在說(shuō)笑話(huà)。

Someone must have been smoking here. 一定有人一直在這里抽煙。

He must have arrived already. 他一定已經(jīng)到了。
