學(xué)好關(guān)系副詞的五個(gè)關(guān)鍵點(diǎn)

一、弄清關(guān)系副詞的用法特點(diǎn)

英語中的關(guān)系副詞只有三個(gè)，它們是when, where和why。其用法特點(diǎn)有三：一是在定語從句中只用作狀語，不用作主語或賓語；二是它們引導(dǎo)定語從句所修飾的先行詞分別是表示時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)和原因；三是when和where可引導(dǎo)限制性和非限制性定語從句，而why只能引導(dǎo)限制性定語從句，不能引導(dǎo)非限制性定語從句。

There are times when I wonder why I do this job. 有時(shí)候我自己也不明白自己為什么要干這份工作。

You learn a language better if you visit the country where it’s spoken. 若到說某種語言的國(guó)家去，就能把該種語言學(xué)得好些。

Unless you’re ill, there’s no reason why you can’t get those 15 minutes of walking in daily. 除非你病了，否則你沒有理由每天連走15分鐘都做不到的。

下面是when和where引導(dǎo)非限制性定語從句的例句：

The last time I went to Scotland was in May, when the weather was beautiful. 我上次去蘇格蘭是五月份，那時(shí)天氣很好。

In 1963 we moved to Boston, where my grandparents lived. 我們于1963年搬到了波斯頓，我的祖父母住在那兒。

二、辨清關(guān)系副詞與關(guān)系代詞的區(qū)別

關(guān)系副詞與關(guān)系代詞的區(qū)別主要體現(xiàn)在它們的句法功能上，若在定語從句中用作狀語，就用關(guān)系副詞；若不是用作狀語，而是用作主語、賓語、定語等，則用關(guān)系代詞。所以不要一見到定語從句的先行詞是指時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)或原因，就以為一定要用關(guān)系副詞when, where或why，注意同時(shí)還要看它在定語從句中充當(dāng)什么成分。如：

Don’t forget the time (that, which) I’ve told you. 不要忘記我告訴你的時(shí)間。

此例中的關(guān)系代詞that / which在定語從句中用作動(dòng)詞told的賓語，正因?yàn)槭怯米髻e語，所以也可以省略。

He works in a factory that [which] makes TV sets. 他在一家電視機(jī)廠工作。（關(guān)系代詞that / which在定語從句中用作主語）

三、了解涉及關(guān)系副詞的幾個(gè)特殊結(jié)構(gòu)

1. from where

同學(xué)們可能認(rèn)為，在介詞后只能用which，不能用where，其實(shí)from where是一個(gè)很常用的慣用表達(dá)，它有兩個(gè)意思：一是表示“從那兒”（=and from there），二是表示“從……的地方”。如：

We went up to the roof, from where we had a good view of the procession. 我們登上房頂，從那里我們清楚地看到了游行。

Across the street from where we’re standing, you can see the old churchyard. 在我們所站之處的街對(duì)面，你可以看到古老的教堂墓地。

2. for the (simple) reason

一般認(rèn)為reason后總是接why引導(dǎo)的定語從句，但for the (simple) reason是固定搭配，它后面通常是直接跟一個(gè)句子，而不用why來引導(dǎo)，其意為“（只是）因?yàn)?/SPAN>”。如：

We aren’t going for the simple reason that we can’t afford it. 我們不去原因很簡(jiǎn)單：我們負(fù)擔(dān)不起。

She didn’t answer for the simple reason that she couldn’t think of anything to say. 她沒有回答，只是因?yàn)樗龥]有想出要說什么。

He might have left the money for the simple reason that he didn’t know it was there. 他留下那筆錢的原因可能很簡(jiǎn)單——他不知道那里有錢。
