在高考英語涉及倒裝的考題中，約有一半是考查否定狀語置于句首時的倒裝。這里所說的否定狀語主要是指never, seldom, rarely, little, hardly, scarcely, no sooner, no longer, nowhere 等表示否定意義的副詞以及by no means(決不), in no case(決不), on no accounts(決不), on no condition(決不), in [under] no circumstances(決不)等。這種倒裝與一般疑問句的形式相同，通常被稱為部分倒裝。如：
Never shall I forgive him. 我永遠不會寬恕他。
Seldom does he go out for dinner. 他很少出去吃飯。
Hardly does she have time to listen to music. 她幾乎沒時間聽音樂。
