51. 勞駕,能借個火嗎?

誤:Can you give me a fire, please?

正:Can you give me a light, please?

析:fire 表示,主要指燃燒的火; 表示火柴或打火機等的,英語用 light

52. 據說他對她是一見鐘情。

誤:It’s said that he fell in love with her at the first time he saw her.

正:It’s said that he fell in love with her the first time he saw her.

析:the first time(第一次)在此用作連詞,引導時間狀語從句。此句也可改為:He fell in love with her when he saw her for the first time.

53. 起初我還以為他很靦腆,后來我才發覺他是不愛理人。

誤:First I thought he was shy, but then I discovered he was just not interested in other people.

正:At first I thought he was shy, but then I discovered he was just not interested in other people.

析:比較 first at first:前者意為……”,用來說明順序,暗示接下去還有其它動作或事件要發生,因此其后往往接 (或暗示有)then, next, last 等詞;而后者意為起初”“開始,它強調的是前后對照,暗示接下去的動作與前面的動作有所不同甚至相反,因此常有 but, afterwards, soon, at last等相呼應。比較:First my car broke down, then I lost my key: it never rains but it pours! 先是我的汽車出了故障,接著又丟了鑰匙,真是禍不單行! / At first things went well, but later on we ran into trouble. 起初事情進展得很順利,但后來我們遇到了困難。

54. 許多年輕人都喜歡聽流行音樂。

誤:Many young people are fond to listen to pop music.

正:Many young people are fond of listening to pop music.

析:表示喜歡做某事,通常用 be fond of doing sth,而不用 be fond to do sth

55. 他們原諒了他的魯莽。

誤:They forgave him to be rude.

正:They forgave his being rude.

正:They forgave (him) his rudeness.

正:They forgave him for being rude.(www.52ysedu.com)

析:forgive(原諒)之后可以接名詞或代詞作賓語,也可以接雙賓語,還可以接動名詞(通常有邏輯主語)以及用于 forgive sb for doing sth 等,但是它通常不接不定式的復合結構。

56. 他用驚恐的眼神看著他周圍的每一個人。

誤:He stared at everyone around him with frightening eyes.

正:He stared at everyone around him with frightened eyes.

析:比較 frightening frightened:前者指令人害怕的,后者指感到害怕的。比較:frightened eyes 驚恐的眼神。frightening eyes 嚇人的眼神。The man was frightened. 這個人很害怕(即被嚇住了)The man was frightening. 這個人很恐怖(好像要傷人似的)

57. 這個假日過得真沒意思,我們還不如呆在家里。

誤:This holiday isn’t very funny; we might as well be back home.

正:This holiday isn’t much fun; we might as well be back home.

析:雖然有的詞典將 funny 的詞義注為有趣的,但它的實際意思其實是 amusing, causing laughter,即它所表示的有趣實際上是一種滑稽可笑的有趣,如:a funny story 一個滑稽可笑的故事。由此可見,上例中用 funny 顯然不合原意。

58. 十八世紀是小說的黃金時期。

誤:The 18th century was the gold age of the novel.

正:The 18th century was the golden age of the novel.

析:gold golden用于名詞作定語時的原則區別是:gold 主要表示金質的,也可表示金色的。但當用于比喻義表示寶貴的”“黃金般的等義時,習慣上要用 golden

59. 我知道他一點也不滿意。

誤:I know that he didn’t satisfy at all.

正:I know that he wasn’t satisfied at all.(http://ask.yygrammar.com/)

析:在現代英語中,satisfy只用作及物動詞,其意不是滿意而是使()滿意,所以其后不能沒有賓語,除非是被動語態(或是系表結構)

60. 現在計算機也開始為農業服務了。

誤:Now computers have also begun serving for agriculture.

正:Now computers have also begun serving agriculture.

析:serve的意思是……服務,是及物動詞,后接賓語時無需用介詞。又如:We must serve the people heart and soul. 我們必須全心全意地為人民服務。
