dare用作情態(tài)動詞與實(shí)義動詞的用法

1. 用作情態(tài)動詞，主要用于否定句、疑問句或條件從句中。如：

They dare not tell the truth. 他們不敢說真話。

Dare you say that to the boss? 你敢向上司說這種話嗎?

How dare you ask me such a question? 你怎么敢問我這樣的問題?

If you dare speak to me like that again, you will be sorry. 你敢再這樣對我說，你會后悔的。

注意，I dare say 是習(xí)慣說法，并不一定要譯為“我敢說”。它所表示的是一種不肯定的語氣，常譯為“很可能”“大概”“我想”等。有時(shí)用作反語。如：

I dare say (that) you are right. 我想你是對的。

Oh, you mean to win? I dare say you will. 啊，你想打贏?我且看你贏吧。

作為情態(tài)動詞，dare 沒有單數(shù)第三人稱形式，但有過去式。如：

He dared not go near the place. 他不敢走近那個(gè)地方。

但是盡管有過去式，人們還是常用現(xiàn)在式表示過去或后接完成式動詞。如：

2. 用作實(shí)義動詞，意為“敢于”，可以有各種詞形變化，其后多接帶 to 的不定式（有時(shí) to 也可省去），可用于肯定句、否定句、疑問句以及各種從句。如：

He didn’t dare (to) go. 他不敢去。

We must dare to think, speak and act. 我們必須敢想，敢說，敢做。

I wonder how he dares (to) say such things. 我納悶他怎么竟敢說出這樣的話來。

The boy stood before the teacher, not daring to look up. 這個(gè)小男孩站在老師面前不敢抬頭。

另外，有時(shí)還用作及物動詞，表示“激”“向……挑戰(zhàn)”，通常用于dare sb to do sth。如：

I dare you to tell your mother. 我諒你也不敢告訴你母親。

He dared me to jump from the bridge to the river. 他挑唆我，要我從橋上跳下河。
