although 與 though用法辨析

1. 用作連詞

兩者均可用作連詞，表示“雖然”，常可換用，只是although比though更為正式。如：

Although [Though] she didn’t say anything I sensed (that) she didn’t like the idea. 她雖然什么也沒說，但我已意識到她不喜歡這個主意。

兩者所引導的從句均可有所省略。如：

Although [Though] divorced they continued to live under the same roof. 他們已經離婚了，但仍然同住在一座房子里。(Although / Though 后省略了 they were)

2. 用作副詞

although一般不用作副詞，而though可用作副詞，且一般放在句末(不放在句首)，意為“可是”“不過”。如：

It’s hard work; I enjoy it though. 工作很辛苦，可是我樂意干。

3. 用于習語

在 as though(好像，仿佛), even though(即使，縱然)等固定短語中不能用 although。如：

He talks as though he knew anything. 他夸夸其談好像無所不知。

I like her even though she can be annoying. 盡管她有時很惱人，但我還是喜歡她。

4. 用于倒裝

though 引導的讓步狀語從句可用部分倒裝的形式(注意：倒裝后位于句首的名詞之前不用冠詞)，但 although 一般不這樣用。如：

Poor though I am, I can afford it. 我雖窮，但這東西還是買得起的。

Child though he was, he did quite well. 他雖是孩子，但干得很好。

雖然這樣用的though 不能換成although，但可換成 as。如：

Try as [though] I would, I could not prevail upon him to follow my advice. 盡管我想方設法，我仍不能說服他照我的意見行事。
