用作使役動(dòng)詞,表示“使”,后接不定式的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)作賓語(yǔ)時(shí),不定式不能帶 to;但是,若make為被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài),則不定式必須帶to。如: Though he had often made his little sister cry, today he was made to cry by his little sister. 注意,若make不表示“使”,而表示其他意思則情況不同,比如下面兩句,make后的不定式不是賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ),而是目的狀語(yǔ): We make candles to give light. He made a box to put his money in. He tried to make his ideas known. She had to shout to make herself heard. He made the driver waiting for him outside. 正:He had the driver waiting for him outside. Have I made myself clear? We’ll do our best to make you happy. Sit down and make yourself at home. She would have made an excellent teacher. That will make a good ending to the book. 4. 以下各表達(dá)中的 make 在譯成中文較靈活,需注意:make tea(泡茶),make money(賺錢(qián)),make the train(趕上火車),make the party(參加聚會(huì)),make 20 miles in an hour(一小時(shí)走20英里),等。 5. 用于“be made+介詞”: (1) 比較 be made of 與 be made from:兩者均表示“由…… The chair is made of wood. Some paper is made from wood. (2) 比較 be make out of 與 be made into:前者表示“由…… Rice can be made into wine. Wine can be made out of [from] rice. You will make it if you try. He’s never really made it as an actor. You needn’t worry; he will make it. If you want to make it, better get doing. I’ve been having violin lessons every two weeks, but I think I’ll make it every week from now on. The train leaves in five minutes—we’ll never make it. We are too late; I don’t think we can make it. I’m really sorry, but I won’t be able to make it (on) Sunday after all. Let’s make it at 8:30. Is that all right for you? A:Shall we make it next week? B:OK, let’s make it next week. The doctor knew that the patient was unlikely to make it. He had a high fever, but it doesn’t mean be couldn’t make it. 注意,以下make it…結(jié)構(gòu)中的it為形式賓語(yǔ): I have to make it clear that my family is poor. I make it a rule to write in my diary every night.
