英語中的連接副詞與關(guān)系副詞

1. 連接副詞的用法特點(diǎn)

連接副詞主要有兩類，一類是用于連接句子，如therefore, besides, otherwise, however, moreover, still, thus, meanwhile等；另一類是用于引導(dǎo)從句(或不定式)，如when, why, where, how 等。

I don’t want to go out now, and besides, I must work. 我現(xiàn)在不想出去，而且我還得工作。

I’d like to go with you; however, my hands are full. 我很想和你一塊兒去，可是我手頭太忙。

Tell us where your parents have gone. 告訴我們你父母去哪兒了。

I don't quite know what he’s going to do next.. 我不知道他下一步會(huì)干什么。

The problem was how to move the heavy machine. 問題是怎樣移動(dòng)這臺(tái)沉重的機(jī)器。

注：連接副詞why 后不能接不定式，如可說 I don’t know why I must do that.(我不知道我為什么必須要做那事)，但不能說 I don’t know why to do that。

2. 關(guān)系副詞的用法特點(diǎn)

關(guān)系副詞用于引導(dǎo)定語從句，代替先行詞表示時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)或原因，同時(shí)本身又從句中作狀語。英語中的關(guān)系副詞主要有 when, where, why 三個(gè)。如：

Can you explain the reason why you were late? 你能解釋一下你為什么遲到嗎？

關(guān)系副詞why 引導(dǎo)定語從句時(shí)，其先行詞通常是 the reason，有時(shí)人們可能將the reason 省略，如：

Can you explain why you were late? 你能解釋一下你為什么遲到嗎？(此句中的why為連接副詞，引導(dǎo)賓語從句)

另外，不要以為當(dāng)先行詞是時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)、原因時(shí)，引導(dǎo)定語從句的就一定是關(guān)系副詞，有時(shí)也不一定。遇此情況，到底用關(guān)系副詞還是關(guān)系代詞，得看它們?cè)诙ㄕZ從句是用作狀語(用關(guān)系副詞)還是用作主語或賓語(關(guān)系代詞)。比較：

I’ll never forget the time when I worked with you. 我永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)忘記與你共事的時(shí)光。

I’ll never forget the time which [that] was spent with you. 我永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)忘記與你一起度過的時(shí)光。
