三個含有used的重要短語與搭配

一、be used to do sth

該結構中的be used實為動詞used的被動語態，其意為“被用來”。由于use…to do sth的意思是“用……做某事”，所以be used to d. sth 的意思就是“被用來做某事”。比較：

A clock is used to tell us the time. 鐘是用來告訴我們時間的。

→We uses a clock to tell us the time. 我們用鐘來告訴我們時間。

A tooth brush is used to clean the teeth. 牙刷是用來刷牙的。

→People use a tooth brush to clean the teeth. 人們用牙刷來刷牙。

二、be used to doing sth

該結構中的be used to意為“習慣于”，其中的to為介詞。如：

I am used to noise. 我習慣于嘈雜的聲音。

I am used to hard work. 我已習慣于做艱苦的工作。

We’re used to the noise from the traffic now. 我們現在已經適應往來車輛的噪音了。

正因為其中的to為介詞，所以當后接動詞時，該動詞要用動名詞，不能用動詞原形。如：

I’m used to getting up early. 我習慣早起。

He is used to working at night. 他習慣在夜里工作。

He is used to looking after himself. 他已習慣于自己照顧自己。

注意，若要強調從不習慣到習慣的過程，可用 get, become 等代替動詞 be。如：

You must get used to getting up early. 你必須習慣于早起。

He said I would grow used to it. 他說我會變得習慣起來。

三、used to do sth

1. used to是一個非常有用的結構，其意為“過去經�！�，其中的 to 是不定式符號，后接動詞原形，注意將to 誤認為是介詞而后接動名詞。如：

I eat lots less than I used to. 我吃得比從前少得多。

We used to dream about living abroad. 我們曾夢想去國外生活。

The soldiers were used to obeying orders. 士兵們習慣于服從命令。

2. 雖然used to表示“過去經常”本身已含有“經�！钡囊馑�，但它卻可以與always, often, sometimes, never等頻度副詞連用。如：

I never used to watch television. 我過去從不看電視。

We often used to play cards. 我們以前經常打牌。

這樣用時，頻度副詞通常置于used 之前，但有時也可置于used之后。如：

I always used [used always] to be afraid of dogs. 我過去總是怕狗。

3. used to習慣上不能與表示具體次數（如twice, three times等），同時也不與表示一段時間（如 three months, five years 等）的詞或短語連用。如：

正：I went to London three times. 我去過倫敦三次。

誤：I used to go to London three times.

正：I lived in the USA for three years. 我在美國生活過五年。

誤：I used to live in the USA for five years.

4. used to 構成否定式和疑問式時通常有兩種方式：即借助助動詞did 或直接將 used 用作助動詞。如：

He usedn’t [didn’t use] to come. 他過去不常來。

You used to go there, usedn’t [didn’t] you? 你過去常到那兒去，是嗎?

5. used to表示“過去常�！睍r，與表示過去習慣的would用法相同，有時可換用。如：

When I was young, I used to [would] play tennis very often. 我年輕時經常打網球。

We used to [would] swim every day when we were children. 我們還是一群孩子時，天天都去游泳。

當要表示過去持續的狀態或表示過去與現在的對比（即“以前這樣，但現在不這樣了”）時，則要用used to。如：

My family used to be poor. 我家過去很窮。

He used to like you. 他原來還是喜歡你的。

I used to smoke, but I don’t any more / any longer. 我過去常吸煙，但我現在已不吸了。

We used to live in New York but now we live in London. 我們以前住在紐約，但現在住在倫敦。
