discover的用法與搭配

1. 為及物動(dòng)詞，注意不要漏掉其后必要的賓語。如：

我的錢包不見了，我剛剛發(fā)現(xiàn)的。

誤：My wallet is missing. I just discovered.

正：My wallet is missing. I just discovered it.

2. 表示“發(fā)現(xiàn)”某一具體的東西，后接名詞或代詞作賓語。如：

William Roentgen discovered X-rays. 威廉·倫琴發(fā)現(xiàn)x射線。

Columbus discovered America in 1492. 哥倫布于1492年發(fā)現(xiàn)美洲。

3. 表示“發(fā)現(xiàn)”某一情況，其后的賓語可以是：

(1) 名詞或代詞。如：

On arriving home I discovered the burglary. 我一到家就發(fā)現(xiàn)家中被盜。

Newton discovered the principle of universal gravitation. 牛頓發(fā)現(xiàn)了萬有引力定律。

(2) 動(dòng)名詞的復(fù)合賓語。如：

We discovered her to be a good cook. 我們發(fā)現(xiàn)她菜做得很好。

He discovered her sitting near the fire, reading a book. 他發(fā)現(xiàn)她坐在爐火邊看書。

有時(shí)也接不定式的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)，但該不定式通常為to be；若為其他動(dòng)詞，則通常為完成式（注意有時(shí)使用被動(dòng)語態(tài)）。如：

She was discovered to be pregnant. 人們發(fā)現(xiàn)她懷孕了。

He was later discovered to have been a spy. 后來發(fā)現(xiàn)他原來是間諜。

(3) 疑問詞+不定式。如：

I couldn’t discover how to use it. 我不知道如何去用它。

We never discovered how to open the box. 我們從未找到打開這只箱子的辦法。

(4) 從句。如：

We discovered that we were on the wrong train. 我們發(fā)覺上錯(cuò)了火車。

Do you ever discover who sent you the flowers? 你發(fā)沒發(fā)現(xiàn)誰給你送的花?

We have never discovered what took place that night. 我們從未發(fā)覺那天晚上發(fā)生了什么事情。
