given的主要用法歸納

一、given 用作形容詞，意為“特定的”。例如：

About 250 students are working with us at any given time. 大約有250名學生在特定的時間與我們一起工作。

In a given situation, more than one of these methods may be used. 在特定的情況下，這些方法中不止一種可以使用。

二、given 用作介詞，意為“由于、鑒于、考慮到”。例如：

Given the present conditions, I think she’s done rather well. 考慮到目前的情況，我認為她干成這樣就算不錯了。

但是要注意這種題型，不要和介詞的用法搞混。例如：

Given the chance, I’d do it again. = If I were given the chance, I’d do it again. 如果還有機會，我會再干一次的。（在此句中given是過去分詞）

三、用于given (that) …，是從屬連詞，意為“如果，假設”。例如：

Given that conflict is inevitable, we need to learn how to manage it. 如果沖突是不可避免的，那么我們就要學會如何處理它。

四、given 可用作名詞（可數），意為“基本事實；不爭的事實”。例如：

It is a given that most animals will protect their young. 大部分的動物都會保護它們的幼仔，這是一個不爭的事實。
