insist類虛擬語氣

insist的中文意思是“堅(jiān)持”，后接賓語從句時(shí)，既可以表示“堅(jiān)持”從句內(nèi)容是真實(shí)的，是已經(jīng)存在的事實(shí)；也可以表示“堅(jiān)持”從句內(nèi)容將是真實(shí)的，希望它成為事實(shí)。具體用法如下：

1. insist表示事實(shí)

即insist的主語認(rèn)為，從句內(nèi)容是既成的事實(shí)，不容置疑——此時(shí)從句謂語用陳述語氣。如：

He insists that he has lost his wallet. 他堅(jiān)持說他的錢包丟了。

He still insisted he wasn’t there at the time. 他仍然堅(jiān)持說他當(dāng)時(shí)不在那兒。

2. insist表示希望

即insist的主語認(rèn)為，從句內(nèi)容雖然還不是事實(shí)，但非常希望它成為事實(shí)——此時(shí)從句謂語用虛擬語氣，即采用“should+動(dòng)詞原形”的形式，且其中的should在美國英語中可以省略。如：

She insisted that I (should) stay for supper. 她一定要我留下吃晚飯。

I insisted that he (should) go with us. 我堅(jiān)持要他和我們一塊兒去。

比較：

He insists that I have read his letter. 他堅(jiān)持說我看過他的信。

He insists that I should read his letter. 他堅(jiān)持要我看他的信。

第一句用的是陳述語氣，說明主句主語he認(rèn)為從句內(nèi)容“我看過他的信”是已經(jīng)發(fā)生的事實(shí)；第二句用的是虛擬語氣，說明主句主語he認(rèn)為從句內(nèi)容“我看他的信”還不是事實(shí)，但他希望這能成為事實(shí)。
