一、傳統(tǒng)語法觀點(diǎn)
傳統(tǒng)語法認(rèn)為，當(dāng)名詞 reason 用作句子主語時(shí)，其后的表語從句要用 that 來引導(dǎo)，而不用 because 來引導(dǎo)。如以下各例均摘自英語詞典：
The reason I’m asking is that I don’t know. 我問的原因是我不懂。
The reason she doesn’t like me is that I make her angry. 她不喜歡我的原因是我讓她生氣。
The reason he bought a new TV is that his old TV is broken. 他買新電視的理由是舊的壞了。
The reason (that) you’re so bad-tempered is that you’re hungry. 你脾氣這么壞，原因是你餓了。
二、現(xiàn)代英語的實(shí)際情況

三、各詞典的觀點(diǎn)
對(duì)于 reason 用作句子主語時(shí)其后的表語從句是否可以用 because 來引導(dǎo)這一問題，不少英美辭書對(duì)此作了“用法注釋”。如：
