英語中有兩類從句所修飾的名詞可以叫“先行詞”，一類是定語從句，一類是同位語從句。同學(xué)們知道，定語從句所修飾的先行詞數(shù)量很多，單是指人和指物的名詞就有千千萬萬個，但英語中的同位語從句則不同，它所修飾的先行詞非常有限，中學(xué)英語中最常用的可能只有幾十個，并且高考可能重點(diǎn)的考查只有14個，比如名詞evidence就是其中之一：
1. Evidence has been found through years of study ______ children’s early sleeping problems are likely to continue when they grow up. (2012重慶卷)
A. why B. how C. whether D. that
2. Modern science has given clear evidence ______ smoking can lead to many diseases. (2011天津卷)
A. what B. which C. that D. where
3. There is clear evidence ______ the most difficult feeling of all to interpret is bodily pain. (2011上海卷)
A. what B. if C. how D. that
這三道題的答案均為that。that只用于引導(dǎo)同位語從句，它在句中沒有意思，也不充當(dāng)句子成分。
下面是高考英語最可能考的14個同位語從句所修飾的先行詞：
1. chance 可能性
chance后接that引導(dǎo)的同位語從句，表示某事發(fā)生的可能性。如：
I think that there is every chance that you will succeed. 我想你取得成功的機(jī)會很大。
Do you think there’s any chance that you could get a job in Paris ? 你看你是不是有機(jī)會在巴黎找個工作呢?
2. doubt 懷疑
doubt后接that引導(dǎo)的同位語從句，表示對某事的懷疑。如：
There is no doubt that the world is getting warmer. 全球氣候正在變暖，這是肯定的。
There’s no doubt that one day a cure will be found. 毫無疑問，總有一天會找到治療的方法。
3. fact 事實(shí)
fact后接that引導(dǎo)的同位語從句，表示某個事實(shí)的具體內(nèi)容。如：
The fact that something is cheap doesn’t necessarily mean it’s of low quality. 價廉未必物不美。
The fact that the money has gone does not mean it was stolen. 那筆錢不見了這一事實(shí)并不意味著是被偷了。
In spite of the fact that hotel prices have risen sharply, the number of tourists is as great as ever. 盡管旅館收費(fèi)猛漲，旅客的人數(shù)還是同以往一樣多。
4. evidence 證據(jù)
evidence后接that引導(dǎo)的同位語從句，表示某個證據(jù)的具體內(nèi)容。如：
Do you have evidence that this treatment works? 你有證據(jù)證明這種治療會起作用嗎？
Is there any scientific evidence that a person's character is reflected in their handwriting? 一個人的筆跡反映其性格的說法有什么科學(xué)依據(jù)嗎？
