5. one, another
(1) one 指一個或相似的一個；another指另外的一個，表泛指。如：
Please give me another. 請給我另一個。
I haven’t a book; can you lend me one? 我沒有書，你能借我一本嗎?
【說明】another 可以修飾one，但one 不能修飾 another。如：
Please give me another one. 請給我另一個。
(2) one 可與 this, that, the 等連用，表示特指；another不能與這些詞連用，也不能表示特指。如：
This one is better than the one over there. 這個比那邊的那個好些。
(3) 在一定范圍內，表示其中的一個用one，表示另一個可用one或another。如：
One boy was reading; one [another] was writing. 一個男孩在讀書，另一個在寫字。
注意：若指兩者中的一個和另一個，則用one…the other。(from www.52ysedu.com)
6. other, the other, others, the others
(1) 帶定冠詞的 the other, the others 表特指，而不帶定冠詞的 other, others 表泛指。如：
Don’t cut in when others are talking. 別人說話時別插話。
Only Jim was there. The others had left. 只有吉姆在那兒，其余的人都離開了。
(2) other 和 the other 后可修飾名詞，也可單獨使用；而 others 和 the others 則只能單獨使用，不能修飾名詞。如可說 the other people，但不能說 the others people。
(3) other 和 the other 既可表示單數也可表示復數，具體視它所表代替或修飾名詞的單復數而定，而 others 和 the others 則永遠表示復數。
(4)注意正確理解以下短語的意思：
every other 每隔一……，其他的……都
none other than 不是別的，正是……
no other than 不是別的，正是……
one after the other 一個接一個地，相繼
one from the other 分別，各別
some . . . or other 某一個
other than 不同于，除了
the other day 早幾天，幾天前
7. much 和many
much 修飾或指代不可數名詞，many修飾或指代可數名詞(復數)。如：
His name is familiar to many people. 他的名字許多人熟悉。
The children have too much homework to do. 孩子們家庭作業太多。
【說明】many 的以下用法應需注意：
(1) a great many 許多(后接可數名詞的復數)。(from www.52ysedu.com)
(2) many a 后接單數可數名詞，相于many后接復數名詞，如 many a time=many times(許多次)。
8. none和no one
(1) none后指人或物，其后通常接表示范圍的of短語；no one 通常只用于指人，不用于指物，且其后習慣上接表示范圍的of短語。
(2) no one用作主語時，謂語動詞用單數；none用作主語時，若指不可數名詞，謂語用單數，若指可數名詞，則謂語可用單數(較正式)也可用復數(用于非正式文體，但更符合慣用法)。如：
No one [=Nobody] likes it. 沒人喜歡它。
None of the books is [are] interesting. 沒有一本書有趣。
(3) 回答who所提問題用 one，回答how many / how much所提出的問題用 none。如：
A：How much money did you give her? 你給了她多少錢?
B：None. 一分也沒給。
A：Who went to see the film? 誰去看電影了?
B：No one [Nobody]. 誰也沒去。
【說明】以下幾個短語，形式不同，意義大致相同：
none but = no one but = nothing but = only=只有
