復合形容詞可由各種前綴和后綴構成（即在本來是形容詞的前或后加上某些表示特定意義的前綴或后綴構成復合形容詞）。如：
We offer interest-free credit on all new cars. 所有新車我們都提供無息貸款服務。
Sports drinks have caught on as consumers have become more health-conscious. 隨著消費者健康意識的增強，運動型飲料開始流行起來。
He began to insist upon a bullet-proof limousine, just for peace of mind. 他開始堅持要防彈豪華轎車，僅僅是為了安心而已。
They experimented successfully on the plants to discover disease-resistant varieties. 他們成功地對植物進行了實驗，發現了抗病品種。
四、用well, bad, ill, poorly等構成的復合形容詞
——well
There is a special need for well-trained teachers. 特別需要訓練有素的老師。
At last she managed to have a well-deserved rest. 她終于爭取到了完全應該得到的休息。
Tonight’s speaker is a well-known writer and journalist. 今晚的講話人是出名的作家兼新聞記者。
The well-established firm closed down with the loss of 600 jobs. 那家地位鞏固的公司倒閉了，造成600 個職位喪失。
The hotel has a well-run restaurant offering a good choice of dishes. 這家賓館內有一家經營得很好的餐廳，提供各種各樣的飯菜。
A well-designed sports shoe should absorb the impact on the 28 bones in each foot. 設計精良的運動鞋應能減輕沖擊力以保護每只腳的28 塊骨頭。
——bad
It is his illness that makes him bad-tempered. 他因為生病，脾氣變得暴躁。
He acknowledges that when he’s tired he gets bad-tempered. 他承認自己累了就會發脾氣。
Eric was really bad-mannered. I’m never going to invite him again. 埃里克真沒禮貌。我永遠不想再請他來了。
When his headaches developed Nick became bad-tempered and even violent. 尼克出現頭痛時脾氣就變得很差，甚至還會動粗。
