◆be used to & used to

1. be used to 意為“習慣于……”，其中的 to 是介詞，所以其后要接名詞或動名詞(不能接動詞原形)；若要強調從不習慣到習慣的過程，可用 get, become 等代替動詞 be。如：

He is used to looking after himself. 他已習慣于自己照顧自己。

I’m sure I’ll get used to the hard work. 我想信我會習慣這艱苦的工作的。

注：be used to 有時可能是被動語態(tài)結構(此時 to 之后要接動詞原形)。如：

A hammer is used to drive in nails. 錘子是用來釘釘子的。

2. used to 意為“過去經�！�，其中的 to 是不定式符號，而不是介詞，所以其后只接動詞原形(不能接動名詞)。如：

He used to live in Paris. 他過去一直住在巴黎。

注：used to 通常不能與表示具體次數(如 twice, three times等)或一段時間(如 three months, five years 等)的詞或短語連用，但是它卻可以與 always, often 表示經常性的副詞連用。如：

正：I went to Paris three times. 我去巴黎去過三次。

誤：I used to go to Paris three times.

正：I lived in the country for three years. 我在鄉(xiāng)下住過 三年。

誤：I used to live in the country for three years.

正：I always used [used always] to be afraid of dogs. 我 過去總是怕狗。

used to 構成否定式和疑問式時通常有兩種方式：即借助助動詞did 或直接將 used 用作助動詞。如：

He usedn’t [didn’t use] to come. 他過去不常來。

You used to go there, usedn’t [didn’t] you? 你過去常到那兒去，是嗎?

另外，有時也可見到以下樣的否定式和疑問式，但不是很普通：

Did you use(d) to be a teacher? 你過去是當老師的嗎?

They didn’t use(d) to live here. 他們過去沒住在這兒。

There used to be a cinema here, use(d)n’t there? 往日這里曾有家電影院，是嗎?

◆used to, would

兩者都表示過去的習慣，區(qū)別如下：

1. 若表示過去習慣性的動作，兩者常可換用。如：

When we were children we would [used to] go skatingevery winter. 我們小時候，每年冬天都去溜冰。

2. 若表示過去持續(xù)的狀態(tài)或表示過去與現在的對比，則通常要用used to 而不用 would。如：

He used to like you. 他原來還是喜歡你的。

He is not what he used to be. 他已不是從前的他了。

He doesn’t work here now, but he used to. 他現在不在這兒工作了，但他曾經在這工作過。

◆useful

表示“對……來說是有用的”，其后可接介詞 to 或 for。一般認為：對于人，用介詞 to；對于目的，用介詞 for。如：

Your suggestions have been most useful to me. 你的建議對我一直十分有用。

This book will come in use for studying history. 這本書對研究歷史會有作用。

但是在現代英語中，表示對某人有用時，用介詞 to, for 均可。如：

This book is useful to [for] young students. 這本書對年輕學生很有用。

不過像下面這樣的句子，通常用介詞 for。如：

It’s useful for you to know this. 知道這一點對你很有用。

This is a useful book for young students. 這本書對年輕學生有用。(注意此句 useful 后接有名詞)
