(3) 有時表示公司名稱中未列出姓名的合伙人，此時是不可數名詞(可略為 Co. )。比如：Smith 與其合作者共同開辦的公司便可以叫做Smith & Co.，也可以叫 The Smith Company。

◆compare v.

1. 表示“把……與……比較”，通常用 compare……with……，但在現代英語中，也可用 compare……to……，或者用 compare……and……。如：

If you compare his work with [and] hers, you’ll find hersis much better. 要是把他倆的工作比較一下，就會發現她的好得多。

Having compared the new dictionary with [to] the old one, he found the new one more helpful. 將新舊詞典比較之后，他發現新詞典更有用。

Compared with [to] many women, she was indeed veryfortunate. 和許多女人相比，她的確算是很幸運的了。

2. 表示“把……比作……”，通常用 compare……to……。如：

Shakespare compared the world to a stage. 莎士比亞把世界比作舞臺。

The poet compares the woman he loves to a rose. 詩人把他所愛的女人比作玫瑰。

3. 表示“比得上”、“能與……比美”，通常用 compare with, 多與情態動詞 can 連用，且主要用于否定句或疑問句中。如：

My English can’t compare with his. 我的英語不能與他比。

Nothing can compare with wool for warmth. 沒有比羊毛更暖和的東西了。

◆complete v. & adj.

1. 用作動詞，表示“完成”，通常只用作及物動詞，因此要么有賓語，要么用被動語態。如：

He has completed his work. 他的工作完成了。

When will the railway be completed? 鐵路什么時候峻工?

2. 用作形容詞，表示“完成的”、“結束的”等，只用作表語。如：

When will the work be complete? 工作什么時候完成?

表示“徹底的”、“全面的”，通常用作定語。如：

He was a complete idiot. 他是個十足的白癡。

表示“完整的”或“全部的”等，可用作表語或定語。如：

This set of tools is not complete. 這套工具不齊全。

He bought a set of Shakespeare’s plays. 他買了一套完整的莎士比亞戲劇集。
