關閉窗口 4. elder, eldest與older, oldest 的用法區別
(1) old 通常的比較級和最高級分別是 older, oldest。可用于人或物，可用作表語或定語，可與 than 連用：
He is older than me. 他比我年紀大。
I'm two years older than he. 我比他大兩歲。
The church is the oldest building in the city. 這座教堂是城里最古老的建筑。
(2) elder 與 eldest 主要用于家人之間表明長幼關系。通常只用于人而不用于物，只用作定語而不用作表語，也不與 than 連用：
Who is the eldest sister? 誰是大姐?
He is my elder brother. 他是我哥哥。
【說明】在美國英語中也可用 older, oldest 表示長幼關系。elder 與 eldest 的區別是：前者指兩者中年紀較大的, 而后者指三者或三者以上的年紀最大的。如：
one's elder son 指兩個兒子中年紀較大的一個
one's eldest son 指三個或三個以上的兒子中年紀最大的一個
另外，elder 和 eldest 作為形容詞，通常只能用作定語，不用作表語；但若不是用作形容詞(即其后不接名詞)而是用作名詞，則可以用作表語(此時通常有冠詞或物主代詞修飾)：
I'm the eldest in the family. 我是全家年紀最大的。
He was the elder of the two sons. 他是兩個兒子中較大的。
5. 使用比較等級的基本原則
不作比較用原級，兩者比較用比較級，多者比較用最高級：
He is very tall. 他很高。(盡管“很高”，但沒有比較，故用原級)
He is very short, but taller than me. 他很矮，但比我高。
Among the three short girls, Mary is the tallest. 在這三個矮姑娘中，瑪麗是最高的。
6. 不能使用雙重比較等級
即構成比較級時不能既加詞尾-er，又在其前加more；構成最高級時不能既在詞尾加-est，又在其前加most：
誤：His English is more better than mine.
正：His English is much better than mine. 他的英語比我的英語好多了。
【說明】雖不能說more better, most earliest 之類的，但可用“比較級+and+比較級”這樣的形式：
It’s getting warmer and warmer. 天氣越來越暖和了。
The city is becoming more and more beautiful. 這個城市變得越來越美麗了。
7. 使用比較等級要合乎邏輯
請看下面兩道題：
(1) Her music is more beautiful than ______.
A. me B. you C. us D. his
此題應選D，其中的his=his music。因為從邏輯上說，應該是her music與his music作比較，而不是her music與me, you, us比較。
(2)
A. any B. other C. any other D. any others
此題應選C，因為China也在Asia范圍內，所以應在any后加上other，以排除自己比自己大的不合理邏輯。
