關閉窗口 ③ 表示“某一個”或受描繪性定語修飾表示“某種”這樣的意義時，節日、星期、月份、季節等名詞也可用不定冠詞：
My birthday happened to be on a Saturday. 我的生日碰巧是星期六。
We had a nice Christmas. 我們過了一個愉快的圣誕節。
④ 當季節名詞不強調時間而強調季節的內涵時，通常用 the：
Winter is coming. 冬天要來了。(單純指冬天的時間)
The winter is coming. 冬天要來了。(暗示寒冷)
(2) 球類、三餐、茶點等名詞前，通常用零冠詞：
They all like to play basketball. 他們都喜歡打籃球。
I go to work after breakfast. 我吃早餐后就去上班。
They were at tea when I called. 我來訪時他們正在喝茶(吃茶點)。
【說明】三餐飯被特指可用定冠詞，若受形容詞修飾且非特指，可用不定冠詞：
It was a wonderful dinner. 這是一頓豐盛的晚餐。
How did you like the dinner? 那頓飯你覺得怎樣?
(3) 公園、廣場、學校、語言等名詞前通常用零冠詞：
Hyde Park 海德公園 Central Park (紐約)中心公園
Zhongshan Park 中山公園 Tian An Men Square 天安門廣場
speak English 說英語 Beijing University 北京大學
【說明】當語言名詞表特指意義或指某一語言中的對應詞時，通常用定冠詞：
the English spoken in America and Canada 在美國和加拿大講的英語
What's the English for this? 這個東西用英語怎么說?
另外，在語言名詞后加上 language一詞時，也要用冠詞：the English language
(4) 表示學習、生活、娛樂等的單數名詞，若表示相關的活動時，通常用零冠詞：
go to school (bed, church, town, class, college, etc) 去上學(睡覺，做禮拜，進城，上課，上大學，等)
in bed (school, class, college, church, prison, hospital, etc) 在睡覺(上學，上課，上大學，做禮拜，坐牢，住院，等)
be sent to hospital (prison) 被送往醫院住院或治療(關進監獄)
School is over at twelve. 12點放學。
【說明】① 若不是指活動，而是指具體的實物，則要用冠詞。比較：
go to the bed 到床邊去(側重指“床”這個實體)
go to bed 上床睡覺(側重指與“床”有關的活動，即睡覺)
be in the school 在這所學校里(側重指“學校”這個地點)
be in school 在上學(側重指與“學校”有關的活動，即讀書)
② 但是cinema, theatre是例外，它們表示相關活動時，其前要用定冠詞：
He often goes to the cinema (theatre). 他經常去看電影(看戲)。
I prefer the cinema to the theatre. 我喜歡看電影，不喜歡看戲。
③ 有時定冠詞和零冠詞的選擇與英美英語的不同習慣有關：
in hospital (英)住院 in the hospital (美)住院
go to university (英)上大學 go to the university (美)上大學
at table (英)在吃飯 at the table (美)在吃飯
(5) 表示乘坐交通工具時通常用零冠詞：
by bus 乘公共汽車 by bike (bicycle) 騎自行車
by plane / by air乘飛機 by ship (boat) 坐船
by land 走陸路 by sea 走海路
