It’s strange that…中只能用虛擬語氣嗎？

《實(shí)用英語正誤詞典》(山東友誼出版社 2002年8月第1版)p1507:
【誤】It is strange that such a thing happen in your place.
【正】It is strange that such a thing should happen in your place.
【說明】在it is strange that …的句型中，that引導(dǎo)的主語從句的謂語動詞應(yīng)該用should+動詞原形(虛擬語氣)。在美國英語中should被省略，直接用動詞原形。
從以上可以看出，《實(shí)用英語正誤詞典》的編者認(rèn)為在“it is strange that …”中只能用虛擬語氣，不能用其他形式。
然而，姚善友在其著的《英語虛擬語氣》(商務(wù)印書館 1959年7月北京第1次印刷)p165上明確指出: 在像 it is strange 這一類表示情感的主句后面，可以用直陳語氣，也可用 should be 型或 should have been型虛擬形式。例如：
(1) It is strange that he knows all this. (直陳語氣)
(2) It is strange that he should know all this. (虛擬語氣)
第一句用直陳語氣，僅僅敘述了事實(shí)，第二句用should be型虛擬形式，強(qiáng)調(diào)這一事實(shí)的離奇性。這里使用should be型或 should have been型虛擬形式，表明盡管從句所敘述的無疑的是事實(shí)，但在講話人心目中，這種行為或狀態(tài)卻能引起我們的驚奇、欣慰、悔恨、失望等情感。
另外，(日)井上義昌在其編著的《英美語慣用法辭典》(吳 拓等翻譯 湖南師范大學(xué)出版社1991年5月第1版)p771上也明確表示: 在 it is strange that這種從句中，that-clause的動詞歷來都是接所謂emotional (表感情的) should，不過，省略should的虛擬語氣也很多，而且大多還可用直陳法動詞現(xiàn)在時替換之……這種用法的should包含了說話人的感情，是主觀意識的說法，但不用should，若講It is strange [that] he says so. 則只是以事實(shí)為陳述內(nèi)容的客觀說法。Cf. “It is strange that she married (or has married) such an old man.” merely states the fact; “It is strange that she should have married such an old man.” lays more stress on the strangeness by using the imaginative should in the clause.
再者，賀立民在其編著的《賀氏英語語法全書》(中山大學(xué)出版社2003年2月第1版)p723上：說話者是要有虛擬語氣的方式來強(qiáng)調(diào)其對此一事實(shí)的感受。如果只是敘述事實(shí)，用陳述語氣已足。
綜上所述，可以得出這樣一個結(jié)論：在“it is strange that …中”并非只能用虛擬語氣，也可以用直陳語氣。至于應(yīng)該用虛擬語氣，也還是用直陳語氣取決于實(shí)際情景。如果只是陳述事實(shí)，就可以用直陳語氣；如果強(qiáng)調(diào)此事實(shí)的感受應(yīng)該用虛擬語氣。
請看在“it is strange that …中”使用直陳語氣的例證：
1. 王希山編著《英語形容詞搭配結(jié)構(gòu)詞典》(上海譯文出版社2004年4月第1版) p636: It is strange +that從句
It is strange that there has been so much rain this year. 真奇怪，今年下了這么多雨。
It is strange to me that you do not understand that. 我覺得奇怪的是你竟然不理解這個。
2. 陸谷孫主編《英漢大詞典》(第2版) (上海譯文出版社2007年3月第1版)p1992: It’s very strange that you haven’t heard from him. 奇怪的是你沒有收到他的信。
3. 戴煒棟主編《新世紀(jì)英漢多功能詞典》(上海外語教育出版社 2003年11月第1版)p1599: He’s always here, it’s strange that you’ve never met him. 他一直在這兒，很奇怪你沒碰到過他。
4. Morton Benson《朗文英語實(shí)用詞語搭配詞典》(上海譯文出版社 1996年6月第1版)p1095: It is strange that she hasn’t written for a whole month. 真奇怪，她一個月都沒來信了。
5. John Sinclair主編《Collins Cobuild英語語法大全》(任紹曾等譯 商務(wù)印書館 1999年1月第1版)p524: 要評論事實(shí)、事件或情況時，可用 “it”，后接系動詞、補(bǔ)足語加說明事實(shí)的 “that”從句。
It is strange that it hasn’t been noticed before.
