1. 表示“迫使”時，注意以下用法：
(1) 其后通常不直接跟不定式，但可接不定式的復合結構。如：
The law obliges parents to send their children to school. 法律迫使父母送孩子上學。
不過，在現代英語中該結構通常用于被動形式。如：
You are obliged by law to pay taxes. 按照法律規定，你必須納稅。
They were obliged to sell their house in order to pay their debts. 他們被迫賣房還債。
(2) 在許多情況下，obliged具有形容詞的特點，有時其被迫意味較弱，常可譯為“有必要”“有責任”“應該”等。如：
I felt obliged to ask them to dinner. 我覺得有必要請他們請飯。
2. 表示“幫忙”“效勞”時，通常指根據需要或要求而做某事，注意以下用法：
(1) 可以用于不及物動詞。如：
We’d be happy to oblige. 我們樂于效勞。
Will you oblige by filling in this form? 勞駕填一下這張表好嗎?
(2) 用作及物動詞時，總是以受益者（指人）作賓語，使用時注意以下搭配和用法：
①用于oblige sb by doing sth，表示通過做某事而幫助某人或按某人的要求做某事。如：
Please oblige me by keeping quiet during the lecture. 演講期間請保持安靜。
Could you oblige me by posting the letter? 勞駕請幫我把這封信寄了好嗎?
②用于oblige sb with sth，表示用某物來幫助某人或按某人的要求提供某物。如：
Could you oblige me with 10 dollars? 借給我10美元好嗎?
Would you be willing to oblige us with some information? 你愿為我們提供一些信息嗎?
(3) 修飾oblige有個非常典型的副詞，就是duly，表示“正如期望地效勞或幫忙”。如：
The fans were looking for another goal and Owen duly obliged. 球迷們正期待另一粒進球時，歐文一如期望地進球了。
3. 表示“感激”時，在現代英語中，只用于被動語態be obliged（事實上已變為系表結構），主要用于以下兩個結構：
(1) 用于I (We) would be obliged if…，用于正式場合請人幫忙，其意為“如果……我（我們）將非常感激”。如：
I would be obliged if you could read it to us. 你若能讀給我們聽，我將非常感激。
其中的if從句有時可換成不定式。如：
I would be obliged therefore to receive your instructions on this matter. 如果在這個問題上能收到你的指導，我們將非常感激。
(2) 用于(I’m / We’re) much obliged，意為“（我 / 我們）非常感謝”；表示感謝某人，其后可接介詞to；表示因某事而感謝，后接介詞for。如：
I’m obliged to you for your good opinion. 感謝你的寶貴意見。
I’m very much obliged to you for telling me. 我非常感激你告訴了我。
I shall be much obliged to you for an early answer. 盡早賜復，不勝感激。
(3) 注意不要混淆obliged與obliging的用法，后者的意思是“愿意幫忙的”“樂于助人的”“熱情的”。如：
He is always very obliging. 他總是樂于助人。
The official to whom we applied for a permit was most obliging. 我們向他申請許可證的那位官員非常熱情。
