名詞 people的用法

1. people表示“人”“人們”時，只用單數形式，但表示復數意義；作主語時謂語用復數。如：

People love having cats as pets. 人們喜歡把貓當作寵物。

These people have the choice of whether to buy a house or rent one. 這些人可以選擇買房或租房。

Many people enjoy the pleasures and convenience of living in a city centre. 許多人喜歡住在市中心的樂趣和便利。

若要表示“一個人”，英語不能用 one people，可根據情況改用 one person, one man, one woman, one boy 等。

2. 表示“民族”時，為可數名詞，其前可用不定冠詞，也可有復數形式，有時甚至還可以與數詞連用。如：

We Chinese are a hardworking people. 我們中國人是勤勞的人民。

Ireland was inhabited by two peoples. 愛爾蘭居住著兩個民族。

The English-speaking peoples share a common language. 講英語的各民族擁有共同的語言。

也可與 few, many 等連用。如：

The human race is made up of many different peoples. 人類由許多不同的民族組成。

Few peoples in the world can boast (of) such an old civilization as ours. 世界上沒有幾個民族有像我國民族這樣悠久的文化。
