1. in case 單獨使用

in case 有時單獨使用（即其后不接句子），意思是“以防萬一”。如：

I’ll cook plenty of potatoes just in case. 我打算多煮些馬鈴薯，以防萬一。

I don’t think I’ll need any money but I’ll bring some just in case. 我想我不會需要什么錢，但我會帶一些，以防萬一。

You probably won’t need to call—but take my number, just in case. 你很可能無需打電話，但還是記下我的電話號碼，以防萬一。

I guess we’ve already talked about this but I’ll ask you again just in case.  我想我們已經(jīng)談過這個問題了，不過為了以防萬一，我再問你一次。

2. 用于復(fù)合介詞in case of

復(fù)合介詞in case of 與引導(dǎo)從句的in case相似，也有兩個用法：

(1) 表示條件，意思“如果”“假若”“萬一”。如：

In case of fire, break the glass. 萬一發(fā)生火災(zāi)，就把玻璃打碎。

In case of emergency, press the alarm button. 遇到緊急情況，請按警報按鈕。

In case of bad weather, the wedding will be held indoors. 萬一下雨，婚禮將在室內(nèi)舉行。

In case of fire, leave the building by the nearest exit. 如遇火警，由最近的出口離開大樓。

(2) 表示目的，意思是“以防”“以免”。如：

We bought in lots of tinned food in case of heavy snow. 我們采購了許多罐裝食物，以防下大雪時用。

Many shops along the route have been boarded up in case of trouble.  沿途很多商店的門窗都用木板封上了，以防不測。

They’re both asleep upstairs, but you don’t mind listening just in case of trouble, do you?  他們都在樓上睡著了，但你不介意留神聽著點以防萬一吧？
