序數詞前冠詞的使用規律

規律一：序數詞前用定冠詞

在通常情況下，序數詞前要用定冠詞。如：

Read your book, starting at the second paragraph.朗讀書本，從第2段讀起。

We especially enjoyed the third act of the play. 我們特別喜歡戲的第3幕。

The boxer gave in at the fifteenth round. 這個拳擊師在第15個回合中認輸了。

I can find seven, but where is the eighth plate? 我能找到7個盤子，第8個在哪兒呢？

規律二：序數詞前用不定冠詞

在序數詞之前有時使用不定冠詞a (an)，用以表示數量或序數的增加。如：

Several candidates were called for a second interview. 有幾個候選人被叫來作第二次面試。

He gave her another sedative. Then a third. 他給了她另一片鎮靜劑，接著又給了一片。

They proposed a third formula for the new swimming pool. 他們為新游泳池提出了第3種方案。

規律三：序數詞前用物主代詞

當序數詞前有物主代詞修飾時，其前不能再用冠詞。如：

I can dimly remember my fourth birthday. 我隱約記得自己過4歲生日時的情景。

規律四：不用序數詞來表示序數

有些漢語中的序數在英語中并不一定要用序數詞來表示。如：
