1. 指示代詞的形式與用法

指示代詞分單數(this, that)和復數(these, those)兩種形式，在句中可作主語、賓語、表語、定語等。在具體使用時注意：

(1) 用作主語和定語時，可指人或物；用作賓語和表語時，只指物。如在This is my father中，this 用作主語，指人，但是在Do you know this? 中，this用作賓語，此句只能理解為“你知道這個情況嗎?”不能理解為“你認識這個人嗎?”

(2) that和those可作定語從句的先行詞，但this和 these通常不能。另外，在作先行詞時，those可指人，但 that 不可以。如：

What is that which you have just put into the plastic cup? 你剛才放在塑料杯里的是什么東西?

Those who have not bought insurance are now regretting. 那些沒有買保險的人現在后悔了。

2. this 與 that用法區別

當要回指上文提到的事情時，可用this 或 that，但是若要指下文敘述的事情，通常要用 this。如：

We all want to know this: Is it big enough? 我們大家想要知道的是：它夠大嗎?

注：在打電話時，通常用 this 指自己，用that指對方。

3. that 和 those 用于表替代
