take a train to London和take a train for London

只有前者對，還是兩者都對？

我仍然堅持認為，這兩種表達都正確：

1. I decided to take a train to London.

2. I decided to take a train for London.

但是，這兩個句子多少有些差別的。

▲句子結構不同：句1中，to London是介詞短語做地點狀語，修飾take；句2中，for London是介詞短語做定語，修飾a train。

▲句子意思或著重點不同：句1表示“乘坐火車去某地”，說明乘火車的目的；句2表示“乘坐去某地的火車”。

▲如果強調“去某地的交通工具”時，用for，即take a train, bus, plane, boat for......；如果強調謂語動詞去的方向或前往的目的地，用to，即take a train, bus, plane, boat to......。

有人認為，“我的感覺是：表示乘火車去某地，英語是用介詞to，很少用for。”然后列舉了一些用to的例句。也有人認為，“在英美國家的語料庫BNC和COCA中，無有一例是take (takes/took/taking) a train for+地點名詞的例句。英美人使用的不能說完全正確；但連英美人都不使用的至少是不符合英美人的語言習慣的。”

我認為，兩位老師在沒有了解問題全部的情況下，就匆忙下了結論；我們更不能因為“英美語料庫”中沒有查到，就說“不符合英美人的語言習慣”。實際上，“英美語料庫”中有的未必符合語法，“英美語料庫”中沒有收錄的，在現實語言中不一定沒有。

現實語言中，除了take a train to London是正確表達外，交通工具之后使用for表示“去，前往”的用法，可以說比比皆是：

▲《柯林斯高階英漢雙解詞典》明確指出：介詞for表示“去；前往”： If you leave for a particular place or if you take a bus, train, plane, or boat for a place, you are going there.  詞典的解釋本身就是例句：

If you take a bus, train, plane, or boat for a place, you are going there. 

▲《現代英語用法詞典》（張道真）的例句（都是選自國外英語詞典）：

At half past four, they took the train for Cardiff.  (Cronin)

It was time to cartch the last ferry-boat for Oakland.  (London)

▲我見過的一些例句：

He took a plane for America three days ago.他三天前乘飛機前往美國。

Take a train for Pairs and change trains in Basel.搭往巴黎的火車然后在巴賽爾換車。

He hustled off to catch the train for New York. 　 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　他匆匆地去趕開往紐約的火車。

We decided spontaneously to board a train for Geneva. 我們自行決定搭乘去日內瓦的火車。

Get off at the next stop and take a bus for the airport. 在下一個車站下車并乘公共汽車去機場。

Where can I get a bus for the station? 我到哪里能搭到去車站的公共汽車呢?

He was spotted by police boarding a plane for Paris. 他登上飛往巴黎的飛機時被警方認出.

They went on board a ship for New York. 他們搭船前往紐約。

He has taken a ship for Shanghai. 他已乘船去上海了。
