4. 用于習(xí)語come across,主要用法有: (1) 偶然遇見,碰見(=run across) Where did you come [run] across her? 你在那兒碰到她的? I’ve just come across a beautiful poem in this book. 我在這本書里偶然發(fā)現(xiàn)一首優(yōu)美的詩。 (2) 被理解,被傳達(dá)(=come over) He spoke for a long time but his meaning did not really come across. 他講了很長時(shí)間,但他的意思沒有人真正理解。 (3) 使人產(chǎn)生某種印象(=come over) Your speech came across very well. 你的演說相當(dāng)受歡迎。 He came across as sympathetic / a sympathetic person. 他給人以有同情心的印象。 注意以下用法,它不是習(xí)語,其中的across為副詞,表示“在另一邊”: Come across to my office this afternoon. 你今天下午到我辦公室來一趟。 ■add v. 1. 注意以下短語的用法: (1) add in 包括。如: Don’t forget to add me in. 別忘了把我也算上。 Would you add in these items, please? 請你把這些條款包括進(jìn)去好嗎? (2) add to 增加。如: This adds to our difficulties. 這增加了我們的困難。 It adds to my pleasure to see you here today. 今天在這里見到你我格外高興。 (3) add up 加起來。如: You haven’t added the figures up right. 這些數(shù)字你沒有加對。 在口語中還可表示“有意義”“有道理”,主要用于否定句。如: His excuse just doesn’t add up. 他的借口完全站不住腳。 What he said doesn’t add up. 他說的話自相矛盾。 (4) add up to 加起來等于,總計(jì)。如: The figures add up to 500. 這些數(shù)字加起來等于500。 The costs added up to 1,000 dollars. 費(fèi)用總計(jì)為1,000美元。 還可引申指“總起來看說明了”。如: Your long answer just adds up to a refusal. 你的冗長回答簡直等于拒絕。 The evidence all adds up to a case of murder. 所有證據(jù)都說明這是一起謀殺案。 2. 口語中有時(shí)可用add(ed) to that [this]來引出另外的事實(shí)以支持自己的觀點(diǎn),根據(jù)情況可譯為“而且”“另外”等。如: Added to this,she had a wonderful ability to describe things. 除此之外,她還擅長于描繪事物。 3. 類似“3+4=7”這樣的算式,可用以下包含add的英語句子表達(dá): Three added to four makes seven. Three and four add up to seven.
