一、alight的用法

1. 基本詞義：燒著，點著(on fire; lit)

2. 作表語。如：

The house was alight with candles. 屋子里點著蠟燭,亮堂堂的。

Her dress caught alight in the gas fire. 她的衣服讓煤氣爐燒著了。

有時用于比喻義。如：

Their faces were alight with joy. 他們因喜悅而容光煥發。

3. 作賓語補足語。如：

A cigarette set the dry grass alight. 香煙把干草點著了。

4. 作后置定語。如：

Martha looked up into a strange face and dark eyes alight with kindliness and concern.  馬撒慢慢抬起頭，映入眼簾的是張陌生的臉，臉上有一雙充滿慈愛和關注的眼睛。

二、alight的搭配

1. 用于be / catch alight，如：

His clothing caught alight. 他的衣服著火了。

2. 用于remain / stay alight，如：

The fire would remain alight overnight. 整個夜晚，篝火依然燃燒著。

3. 用于set sth alight，如：

The building had been set alight by the killer.大樓被殺手放火燒了。

4. 用于keep sth alight，如：

The fires had to be kept alight each night. 每天晚上，爐火必須燒著。

5. 用于well alight，如：

The fire should be well alight by now. 直到現在，爐火燒得很好。

The sky was alight with millions of stars 成千上萬顆星星照亮了天空。

6. 用于alight with excitement / pleasure / laughter etc，如：

Jed's face was alight with excitement.  杰德激動得滿面紅光。
