《文學原理教材》中的三處語法錯誤

該教材語言地道，通俗易懂，對于想了解文學基本原理的學習者來說是一本很好的文學教材。在學習該書第一部分過程中，筆者發(fā)現(xiàn)了以下三處語法錯誤，本著希望教材不斷完善的愿望，現(xiàn)不揣冒昧提出來，就教于作者。

1. Yet we will surely find one element common to every reader’s expectations before examining a work of fiction. That is, the expectation that the work will tell a story. （第3頁）

【分析】顯然，That is前的句號應該為逗號，That的第一個字母應由大寫改為小寫，即全句應該為：Yet we will surely find one element common to every reader’s expectations before examining a work of fiction, that is, the expectation that the work will tell a story.

2. And yet, his novel has been regarded by many as one of the best war novels that has ever been written.（第3頁）

【分析】定語從句that has ever been written修飾的應該是the best war novels，即先行詞是復數(shù)，因此定語從句中的has 應該為have才符合英語語法。

3. The protagonist is an important figure at the center of the story’s action or the theme and whose conflict with an antagonist forms the central tension of a story.（第21頁）

【分析】該句后半部分and whose conflict with an antagonist forms the central tension of a story顯然不符合英語定語從句用法，應去掉and，并在whose前加逗號，處理成一個非限制性定語從句，即可作如下改進：The protagonist is an important figure at the center of the story’s action or the theme, whose conflict with an antagonist forms the central tension of a story.
